Ethics Of Propaganda And Persuasion

What five Lyme doctors have to say about COVID

In 2005, representatives of the LDA in New Jersey, USA, and CALDA in California, USA, wrote to the Director of the CDC, criticising the information about Lyme disease on the organisations website and its warning about improper diagnostic tests. In December, 2006, a New Jersey congressman complained that it was inappropriate for CDC to highlight IDSAs findingsto the exclusion of others. Lost in these political discussions was the absence of scientific merit in the arguments raised by activists. ILADS leaders claim their practice guidelines are evidence-based and peer-reviewed, but they were not subjected to an external peer-review process by the journal in which they were published as a supplement. Moreover, the support they cite for their guidelines, consisting mainly of anecdotes, studies of animal systems of questionable relevance to human disease, and uncontrolled studies of long-term antibiotic treatment, does not meet accepted criteria for evidence-based medicine.,,, The ILADS guidelines were funded by two activist organisations, the LDA in New Jersey and the Turn The Corner Foundation.

Dr Jyotsna Shah Joined Igenex In 1997 As The Director Of Research And Development

As scientific research and knowledge of the causative organism of Lyme disease increased at a feverish pace in the late 1990s, it became clear to Dr. Shah that the commonly accepted testing criteria for Lyme disease were both too restrictive and incomplete. As she performed more research into Lyme disease testing it became obvious that the CDC criteria were not adequate to serve the population that was being infected by Lyme. By working in close consultation with top scientists vested in Lyme research, physicians who were treating patients, hands-on development in the lab and years of evidence and validation studies, Dr. Shah and her team have developed their own in-house testing criteria. By using a wider spectrum of both relevant proteins found throughout all the stages of infection and more strains of the organism that are found in a wider distribution in the world, more true positives have been found without sacrificing specificity.

Common Symptomatology Between Lyme And Autism

When speaking with children who are chronically ill, it can be difficult to understand what is causing their symptoms. Children, naturally, might not know how to accurately describe their pains or illness. When there are multiple symptoms, it can be even more challenging as they grow and change so quickly. For children with autism or other language disorder, they may be limited or unable to communicate why they feel the way they feel.

Autism Spectrum Disorder and Lyme disease are examples of what seem to be entirely different diseases, but they share an overlap of symptoms. While autism is usually seen as a developmental disorder and Lyme an infectious disease, the two have more in common than you might think. There are interesting connections between the two, especially when diagnosed in children.

Symptoms Shared by Both Autism and Lyme:

  • Neurological symptoms that include difficulty with communication and confusion, disorientation, muscle twitching, sensitivity to light, brain fog, and delayed development.
  • Psychological problems that impact behaviors, obsessive-compulsive disorder, an increased sense of doom, anxiety and outbursts.
  • Physical health issues such as muscle weakness, arthritis, and rashes.
  • Gut health issues including food allergies, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Serious Charges And Horrific

In 2013, the Medical Board of California charged Steven Harris with Gross Negligence and/or Repeated Negligent Acts and/or Incompetence with respect to three patients, T.L., A.P., and L.H.. Most people would consider the alleged treatment of the patients appalling. Also, all these drug cocktails, lab tests, and doctors visits for unsubstantiated diagnoses must have cost a fortune.

These are depressing stories. You have to think that Californias Lyme quack protection law was effective in protecting Steven Harris from receiving more than a slap on the wrist . In the end, L.H.a young girlwas ignored. The Reprimand only applies to the intravenous garlic prescribed to Patients A.P. and T.L.

While California did little to stop Steven Harris from further preying upon patients, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation refused to renew his license to practice medicine.

According to the Complaint, L.H. was 13 years old when Steven Harris began treating her in 2006. He treated her for years with bizarre drug combinations. Negative tests didnt stop him. There wasnt any good evidence L.H. had Lyme disease or Bartonella. Lyme disease in children is treatable and has an excellent prognosis. Theres no good evidence Bartonella is a tick-borne disease or even requires treatment in most cases.

L.H. suffered life threatening complications from the central line installed to dose her with intravenous drugs:

A large section from the Complaint is excerpted below:

At Igenex It Is Our Mission To Continue This Research And Work Closely With Physicians And Scientists To Improve Testing For Tick

As we have learned more about B. burgdorferi, other Borrelia, and the co-infecting organisms throughout the years that cause Lyme disease, we have continued to increase our menu of tests for tick-borne related diseases. We were the first group to identify Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks in California. We were also the first to identify Babesia microti in New York, Switzerland, and Australia, using our exclusive patented FISH technology. Now we are the first to introduce Relapsing Fever Western Blot testing.

Relapsing Fever mimics symptoms of Lyme disease. This issue has become a challenge for physicians finding suspected Lyme patients negative on standard tests. We now know that there are two groups of Borrelia known to cause disease in humans, including B. burgdorferi sensu lato that causes Lyme disease and the Relapsing Fever Borrelia group that causes tick-borne Relapsing Fever. Through commitment and steadfastness, IGeneX is the only lab today that accurately differentiates between the two.

At IGeneX, we excel in research and development. We spend an industry leading excess of 15 to 20 percent of our net profits on research and development to continuously improve our diagnostic testing. We look for more and detect more without a corresponding loss in specificity, no matter when patients were exposed to the tick-borne pathogen.

Here Is The Interview:

Dr Harris, tell us a bit about your background and why you became interested in the complex, chronic illnesses. I was critical care nurse for 20 years and Ive worked with all kinds of doctors and Ive found doctors that work with chronic illness are almost like investigative scientists. You have to be patient and really listen to the patients and its a really unique and very precious skill. So how did you get into that line of work?

Well, I spent quite a bit of time during residency in my medical training actually doing surgery and was very involved and interested in trauma surgery and wartime medical assistance. So, I expect that I was going to be, after working in the United States for a couple years, spending most of my time whether it was with Doctors without Borders or another organisation or on my own internationally. I had really planned on doing jungle medicine as it were. And so, after training I started working with Dr Therese Yang in San Diego just to get my feet wet, and she was one of the clients actually of my fathers lab at the time. He started the lab, IGeneX, and so I knew quite a bit about Lyme disease and about the plight of patients and I was very interested in Lyme disease but didnt expect that I would actually be practicing in it until I started working with Dr Yang and realised in East San Diego County, that it was essentially jungle medicine.

So you came from a social justice and humans right drive from the very beginning?

Thank you very much.
