Oxidation Medicine (Ozone & Hydrogen Peroxide) for Lyme Disease Treatment

Hydrogen Peroxide iv or also know as Iv-H2O2 therapy, the Hydrogen peroxide is infused into the circulatory system through a vein in the arm. It slowly drips in using an iv bag over several minutes.

According to the The Center for Natural and Integrative Medicine, Hydrogen Peroxide kills, or severely inhibits the growth of, anaerobic organisms

Due To The Use Of Chronic Lyme Disease As A Catchall Diagnosis Of Symptoms Many Patients Face The Danger Of Being Treated By Multiple Long

Chronic Lyme disease is sometimes a catchall diagnosis for patients with a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal and neuropsychiatric symptoms, fatigue, and generalized pain. That, in turn, has led to a variety of treatments: courses of antibiotics lasting for months to years, IV infusions of hydrogen peroxide, immunoglobulin therapy, even stem cell transplants. Those treatments, though, may not lead to substantial long-term improvementin fact, they can be harmful.

Clinicians, health departments, and patients have contacted the CDC reporting life-threatening complications resulting from treatment for chronic Lyme disease, including metastatic bacterial infections, septic shock, Clostridium difficile colitis, and abscess. An article in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report described 5 cases that highlight the severity and scope of adverse effects caused by the use of unproven treatments for chronic Lyme disease.

One patient with fatigue and joint pain, was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease, babesiosis, and Bartonella infection. When the symptoms worsened despite multiple courses of oral antibiotics, the patient was switched to IV ceftriaxone and cefotaxime. However, the pain did not lessen the patient became hypotensive and tachycardic and was placed in intensive care. Her condition continued to worsen, and she died. The patients death was attributed to septic shock related to central venous catheterassociated bacteremia.

Oxidation Agents Can Kill Germs Out Right

Laboratory experiments in test tubes and on petri dishes show this. Even our immune system uses oxidation agents to kill germs. White blood cells manufacture oxidizing agents. As an example, white blood cells release hydrogen peroxide and other oxidizing agents through a process called a respiratory burst. This damages the germ membranes and even the DNA. The white blood cells can spit the oxidizing agents at germs nearby or swallow the germs inside parts of the cells and cover them with internal oxidizing agents. The killing and damaging effect of these oxidation agents is limited by the large amounts of antioxidants found in blood. So this form of killing is only effective on germs right next to the white blood cells.

Alternative medicine can sometimes prove to be a life-saver and life-improver, particularly for people who do not have access to modern medicine. It also, however, has a dark and dangerous underbelly in which you’ll find people willing to sell you just about anything with the instruction to put it on or in your body.

The effects of Lyme Disease can be devastating, and there’s a whole army of people who think they are battling the signs of chronic Lyme Disease. If you’re one of them and you’re absolutely desperate for answers and cures, you may just be tempted to try intravenous infusions of hydrogen peroxide.

Spoiler alert: it isn’t safe.

A Prescription For Death

LYME LINKS: Treatment pics

Dr. James Shortt calls himself a “longevity physician.” He promises to help his patients live better in the hopes they’ll live longer.

To many of his longtime patients, he’s a savior, a physician on the cutting edge of alternative treatments.

But the death of one of his patients has been ruled a homicide, and investigators have been combing through his files, looking for more.

At issue is the unconventional use of a cheap, readily available chemical, a chemical you probably have in your medicine cabinet right now.

CNN Correspondent Anderson Cooper, on assignment for 60 Minutes Wednesday, reports on this controversial treatment.

Shortt got his medical degree on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, and has been practicing now for 13 years. Being a “longevity physician” didn’t seem to bother anyone until one of his patients wound up dead.

It turns out Shortt gave her an infusion of a chemical, hydrogen peroxide, that he’s given a lot of his patients. It’s normally used to clean cuts and scrapes, and has never been FDA-approved for internal use. But Shortt has been putting it in his patients’ veins, because he believes hydrogen peroxide can effectively treat illnesses from AIDS to the common cold.

“I think it’s an effective treatment for the flu,” says Shortt, who also believes that it’s effective for multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease, and “as adjunctive therapy” for heart disease. “Things that involve the immune system, viruses, bacteria, sometimes parasites.”

Dangerous Unproven Treatments For Chronic Lyme Disease Are On The Rise

An increasing number of Americans with medically ambiguous symptoms are being misdiagnosed with chronic Lyme disease and prescribed dangerous and often expensive treatments that do not work, according to a new report.

In some instances, patients have died after receiving intensive, long-term and inappropriate courses of intravenous antibiotics that led to septic shock. In other cases, misdiagnosis caused dangerous delays in treatment of a patients actual underlying condition.

These incorrect diagnoses have existed for years. But public health officials and clinicians say they are alarmed because of the increasing severity and scope of some treatments in recent years, said Christina Nelson, a medical epidemiologist and author of a report released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Many of the various treatments, including courses of intravenous antibiotics lasting months and years, have no evidence of effectiveness. Studies have shown that prolonged courses of intravenous antibiotics can often result in serious harm, including death.

Unorthodox alternative therapies include intravenous infusions of hydrogen peroxide, electromagnetic frequency treatments, garlic supplements, even stem cell transplants.

Chronic Lyme disease is a diagnosis that some health-care providers use to describe patients with a variety of symptoms such as fatigue, generalized pain, and neurological symptoms.

How Does It Work

Two enzymes within our body can convert hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen glutathione peroxidase and catalase. When there is limited oxygen in our bodies, our bodies cannot make adequate amounts of hydrogen peroxide to help fight pathogens. Interestingly, hydrogen peroxide is found in a mothers first milk also known as colostrum.

Dr. I.N. Love first documented the use of hydrogen peroxide and its success in treating a number of diseases. Hydrogen Peroxide is a type of reactive oxidative species that can cause cell death to bacterial cells by disrupting protein function and the genetic stability of cells.

Foreign pathogens can cause an immune response leading to an increase in activation of white cells or granulocytes. These granulocytes take up the pathogen and the peroxisome in that complex produces hydrogen peroxide. This hydrogen peroxide helps to kill the offending pathogen.

Hydrogen peroxide has sporicidal and bactericidal effects and can benefit fungal and bacterial.

Hyperthermia Treatment For Lyme Disease

Hyperthermia therapy is a type of medical treatment in which body tissue is exposed to slightly higher temperatures to damage and kill cancer cells or to make cancer cells more sensitive to the effects of radiation and certain anti-cancer drugs. Many Lyme patients are now using it to try to kill of bacteria.

About Oxidation Therapy For Lyme

Peroxide plus Epsom Detox Soak- Lyme Disease

Treatments using ozone, hydrogen peroxide, high dose intravenous vitamin C, and ultraviolet blood irradiation are oxidation therapies.

There is a lot of interest in oxidation therapy for the treatment of Lyme. But does it work? And is it safe to do? After reviewing the science and the outcomes of patients in my Seattle practice who tried forms of these therapies before seeing me, I am skeptical about the benefits and long-term safety of this form of treatment.

Oxidation therapy uses oxidative agents to treat Lyme. Oxidative agents, like hydrogen peroxide and ozone, take electrons from substances like the fats and proteins that make up cell membranes or the genetic material inside of cells. Taking electrons this way can damage the protein and fat covering of germs, our own cell coverings, and the DNA genetic material in cells and germs.

So oxidation is damaging. As an example, the normal chemical reactions in cells create oxidizing agents that lead to cell damage and aging. To limit this, our cells produce many kinds of antioxidants like glutathione. See Glutathione: The Great Fixer for more information.

These commonly used oxidation agents and methods used to treat Lyme include:

  • Ozone therapy
  • Intravenous High Dose Vit C , and
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen.

Review Of The Medical Literature

Scientific studies supporting the efficacy of any of the treatments discussed above could not be found on review of the medical literature. Most of the cited treatments were never evaluated with any scientific study, although we did find that a few treatments were evaluated in studies that either were poorly designed or had unclear relevance to human disease.

Two studies are worth mentioning in more detail. A study of combination therapy with cholestyramine-atovaquone enrolled 25 patients with persistent symptoms after being diagnosed with and treated for babesiosis-Lyme disease coinfection . In this study, however, all patients received cholestyramine for the entirety of the trial, so no inferences could be made about its therapeutic efficacy.

The effect of hyperbaric oxygen on strains of B. burgdorferi was assessed both in vitro and in experimentally infected mice in one study . The investigators found that growth of the organism in vitro was inhibited by hyperbaric oxygen in 14 of 17 cultures. In addition, the organism was cultivable from the bladders of only 20% of mice treated with hyperbaric oxygen, compared with 90% of untreated mice. No study of this therapy in humans with Lyme disease has ever been published.

Assessing Your Risk Of Lyme Disease

Anyone who spends time outdoors in Oregon should be aware of the risks that Lyme disease poses. You can minimize your risk by:

  • Wearing long pants and shirtsleeves when hiking, especially in heavily forested or wooded areas
  • Hiking on trails and avoiding tall grasses or vegetation where ticks may hide
  • Staying away from wildlife like deer and elk that may be host to ticks
  • Checking your body carefully after spending time outdoors. Look closely around the scalp, armpits, groin, and any other areas a tick may hide.
  • Inspecting your dogs and cats for ticks

Beginnings Of A Resolution

It’s hard to know how the current acrimonious stand off will end, but both sides are beginning to show signs of battle fatigue. Even the most entrenched observer can see that mud slinging, muck raking, intimidation, and professional isolation is no way to conduct a scientific inquiryparticularly when vulnerable people are caught in the cross fire.

Fortunately, common ground is not hard to find for those willing to pause and look up from the fighting. A careful examination of guidelines from the two camps shows that both sides are working towards the same goalsa better scientific understanding of this complex infection, standardised definitions, reliable tests, and more, bigger, and better trials of treatment for early and late disease.

Hydrogen peroxide therapy is an intravenous therapy in which hydrogen peroxide is infused into the circulatory system through a vein in the arm. In its pure form, it is a colorless and odorless liquid, comprised of two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms, an arrangement that makes the substance highly reactive. Presently, there are over 6,100 articles in scientific literature dating back to 1920 on the clinical applications of hydrogen peroxide.

It is well known that antibiotics are chemicals that kill the beneficial bacteria within your intestines and upset the delicate balance of the intestinal terrain. Fortunately, there are other options to treat common conditions without toxic side effects. Hydrogen peroxide, for example, can be used to treat conditions such as cold, flu and sinus infection, and many more. Hydrogen peroxide is a more natural option as our bodies automatically produce H202 constantly as part of metabolism. There are units in certain white blood cells called peroxisomes, which produce H2O2. These white cells then engulf bacteria that cause disease and mix them together with these peroxisomes. They both then disappear as the singlet oxygen from H2O2 destroys the bacteria or virus.

When we come down with an obvious infection, be it viral or bacterial, our defense mechanism has been overwhelmed. This is where a careful dilution of H202 administered intravenously can be a big help in fighting off infection.

Peak Us Public Health Body Warns Of Risk From Treatments For Disease That Doesnt Exist

Borrelia burgdorferiB. burgdorferi

The peak public health body in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , has issued a warning about treatments offered for a disease that doesnt exist.

Chronic Lyme disease not to be confused with standard Lyme disease, which does exist is claimed by a minority of doctors and many self-proclaimed healers to be a long-term health condition marked by fatigue, lethargy and generalised pain.

No serious medical organisation recognises the disease as real, and no peer-reviewed study has ever identified a causal agent for it. Nevertheless, over several years a large number of practices have sprung up in the US and elsewhere, including Australia claiming to be able to treat it.

The CDCs warning comes after the organisation identified a range of serious, and sometimes fatal, outcomes arising from chronic Lyme disease treatments. The adverse events include septic shock, osteomyelitis, Clostridium difficile colitis and paraspinal abscess.

The problems are caused by a wide range of treatments, which include extended courses of antibiotics , IV infusions of hydrogen peroxide, immunoglobulin therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, electromagnetic frequency treatments, garlic supplements, colloidal silver, and stem cell transplants.

Chronic Lyme disease is ostensibly a secondary condition arising from Lyme disease a well-known and well-described infection caused by a microbe, Borrelia burgdorferi, spread by ticks.

What Has Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy Been Used For

Hydrogen peroxide was first discovered in 1818, however, it wasnt until the late 1800s that it was used to treat scarlet fever, bacterial infections, and tonsillitis. Following the First World War, it was also used to treat influenza and pneumonia.

In the 1960s, doctors conducted more studies on the effects of the chemical and found that it could be used to help promote oxidation. Thats when oxidative therapy, a group of therapies that stimulate the immune system by using oxygen, ozone gas, or hydrogen peroxide, was pioneered. Oxidative therapy was used to help treat cancer, skin diseases, and polio.

It Doesn’t Matter Where You Live

Although ticks and Lyme disease are often associated with the Northeast, its a mistake to assume that your dog is not exposed in many other regions throughout the United States

WHEN

Ticks are scarce during the cold winter months, but they arrive in abundance earlier in the spring than you think, and stay around long after summer is gone! Further, they prefer a certain time of day to be up and about!

Your dogs legs and belly are obvious hot spots for tick detection, but there are other dark, blood-rich areas you need to examine as well. And proper removal is vital never attempt to twist or burn an attached tick

WHAT

A wide variety of effective products are available for the prevention and treatment of Lyme disease, and although many holistic methods have proven successful, there are times when popular chemical sprays and treatments are warranted

Is Oxidation Therapy Effective

Generally, I see oxidation therapy improves symptoms to various degrees about 40% of the time. Sometimes these improvements are reported to occur in one or two treatments. I do not think ozone and other oxidative therapies work as an effective germ killers. The improvements on ozone have to be due to other effects. I suspect oxidation therapy helps some by improving oxygen levels in the tissues and the function of the cell energy factories called mitochondria. In part, I conclude this because In Lyme, rapidly killing germs does not quickly reverse the hormonal or inflammatory mess created by Lyme. These forms of dis-ease take days to months to reverse. The only thing that could cause rapid improvements observed in some with Lyme is improved energy production in mitochondria.

There are test tube experiments showing that ozone kills germs. However no killing occurs when blood plasma is mixed with the liquid in the test tubes. Infact, experiments show that in a solution of 5% plasma, ozone does not kill at all. That is because the plasma is full of antioxidants that neutralize the ozone germ killing effect. Yes, our own immune systems kill using oxidizing agents. But the germ and the white blood cells have to be right next to each other. If there is too much separation, the antioxidants in blood or tissues neutralize the white blood cell oxidizing agents before they even land on the germ.
