Long Island Leading Country In Tick-Borne Illnesses

Many of the symptoms of Lyme disease are due to the overactive response of the immune system, which causes inflammation throughout the body. This inflammation can be intense, and can cause many different symptoms. Research shows that reducing inflammation is an essential component of healing from Lyme disease. When the immune system is overactive, not only can it cause damage and symptoms, but it can also weaken immune function. This makes it very difficult for the immune system to overcome infections. This leads to a vicious cycle.

Tick Disease & Prevention

I Found A Tick On My PetNow What!?

Horror of horrors, theres a tick on your pet! This can be alarming because ticks are notorious for transmitting diseases. The most common tick bite diseases for pets in the Northeast are Lyme Disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis. These are the things you will want to do to help your pet to remove the tick, treat diseases, and prevent ticks on your pet in the future.

First, get someone elses help. Removing a tick from a pet, particularly a wriggly pet that cant stay still, is a more than one person job. Besides, you will want the support of others if youre not particularly fond of creepy crawlies. Designate one person to remove the tick, and the other person to hold your pet still. Home alone? Do not be embarrassed or otherwise afraid to bring your pet to the Suffolk Veterinary Group Animal Wellness Center where our Veterinary Team will happily assist you! We understand that some people are uncomfortable with the tick removal process, and we dont judge. We also know that some pets dont really understand that youre only trying to help them, so we have plenty of strong people here for support.

Pets Do Not Develop The Bulls Eye Rash Associated With Lyme Disease. In fact, a pet may never develop any rash at all. Do not wait for a rash to bring your pet to the veterinarian if you notice any of the symptoms listed above. Your pet can become very sick in a short amount of time.

How Is Lyme Disease Treated

The more quickly Lyme disease is addressed, the better the outcome. The typical treatment protocol calls for two to four weeks of doxycycline or amoxicillin tablets, taken orally. Beyond two weeks, this treatment is not more effective. Children age 9 or younger and pregnant or lactating women are treated with amoxicillin or penicillin because doxycycline can stain permanent and developing teeth in children. If you are allergic to penicillin, you will be given erythromycin or related antibiotics. Those with heart symptoms are often treated with Rocephin, Claforan, or an intravenous penicillin for two weeks. Most patients will not see long-term heart damage.

How Is Lyme Disease Diagnosed And Treated

To diagnose Lyme disease, Dr. Firshein performs a comprehensive physical exam, reviews your symptoms, and orders blood tests that rule out other health problems or look for signs of tick infection. In some cases, Dr. Firshein might also recommend DNA testing to see if you have genetic markers indicating an autoimmune response to Lyme disease. In many cases, off-site blood drawing in the convenience of your home or office is available to ensure lab tests have been processed prior to your visit.

Based on your diagnosis, he typically recommends a combination of treatments, including oral or intravenous antibiotics to treat your infection. He might also suggest IV therapy to help boost your immune system and flush toxins from your body.

Lyme disease recovery is usually faster the sooner your treatment begins. Your doctor might also suggest long-term IV therapy to continue supporting your immune system after your infection clears up.

OVERVIEW OF THE OPMC CONTROVERSY:Despite the evidence of persistent infection beyond the 4 weektreatment, insurance companies and medical disciplinary boards haveadopted the belief that Lyme disease is easily cured. In New York State, the Office of Professional Medical Conduct has targeted forinvestigation two thirds of the physicians who treat chronic Lymedisease. To protect our access to effective medical care, chronic Lymedisease patients are now fighting for two laws that will stop anunbridled OPMC from inappropriately targeting the only physicians who will treat us.

BACKGROUND:There has been a long-standing controversy in the medical community asto whether or not Lyme disease is easily diagnosed, treated and cured. One group states that diagnosis is easy and that Lyme is almost alwayscured with 4 weeks of antibiotics. The other side of the controversy issupported by chronic Lyme patients and the physicians who treat us.

We contend that the persistence of Lyme disease symptoms beyond the 4week treatment is due to the persistence of the Lyme disease bacterialinfection and/or to the presence of co-infection. We attest to the factthat we do much better when treated beyond those 4 weeks of antibiotictreatment.

Our subjective experience is supported by a body of peer reviewedscientific research that shows that the Lyme bacterium can survive this’standard’ treatment.

Lyme Disease And Gut Health

When one has Lyme disease, invariably there were risk factors that led to this problem, such has hypothyroidism, thats been missed by routine testing and alterations of the microbiome. Additionally when one develops Lyme and co-infections, one develops secondarily a low thyroid and microbiome dysfunction.

Alterations to the microbiome are another component of both the cause, and the effect, of Lyme disease. In treating Lyme, we work to repair, restore and rebalance the microbiome, which is essential in order to reverse inflammation. Dr. Kellman pioneered the term Microbiome Medicine and has written numerous bestselling books on the subject.

One of the many components of microbiome medicine includes finding personalized probiotics, based on your particular bacteria. Probiotics can be a powerful tool for overall health, but they are not one size fits all. We find precisely which formulawhich bacterial strainsyou need in order to heal your microbiome so that it can thrive.

How Is Lyme Disease Identified

If you don’t have the target-shaped red rash , but you’re experiencing symptoms, what’s next? Three to four weeks after your symptoms appear, the doctor will order a blood test to see if you have antibodies against the bacteria. There are two types of blood tests, the ELISA, and the Western Blot. The Western Blot is ordered when the ELISA blood test is inconclusive.

If you are experiencing nervous system symptoms, the next step in diagnosing you is performing a spinal tap, where spinal fluid is removed from your spinal canal to detect brain and spinal cord inflammation, and search for Lyme disease bacterium in your spinal fluid.

Was Plum Island The Garden Of Eden For Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease: Bioweapon created on PLUM ISLAND, Long ...

The book of Genesis, beginnings, places human origin in the Garden of Eden. Some observers believe Lyme disease may have originated on Plum Island.

Plum Island, off the tip of New Yorks Long Island, was opened in 1954 with the stated intent of protecting American livestock from animal diseases such as hoof-and-mouth disease.

Labeled on their website as a Level 3 facility dedicated to working with the most dangerous animal diseases globally, Plum Island is the sole place in America where hoof-and-mouth disease, Rinderpest, and African swine fever can be studied.

Some observers believe Plum Island was established under Project Paperclip, a classified U.S. government program which brought Nazi scientists to America. One of the former Nazis brought to the U.S. was Werner von Braun, the rocket scientist who helped beat Russia in the space race. Von Braun though did not participate in the Plum Island Project.

One Nazi who probably did was Dr. Erich Traub. Traub, a medical doctor, had been the director of the Third Reichs virological and bacteriological warfare program during WWII.

Documentation exists about the Nazis germ warfare work once they came to America. They experimented with poison ticks dropped from planes to determine if ticks, carrying Lyme Disease, were a viable method for biological warfare. Plum Island is within miles of the spot where Lyme Disease began: Lyme, Connecticut.
