Essex, CT The board of directors of Essex Savings Bank has named Diane Arnold, formerly senior vice president and chief lending officer, as the new president and CEO effective August 1.
Arnold began her banking career in 1983 and she worked in a variety of departments at two different banks before joining Essex Savings Bank in 2002, where she ultimately rose to her current position. During her 19 years at the bank, she has been particularly influential in developing the commercial loan portfolio and in mentoring many individuals. She has been involved in a number of community organizations for many years, and in 2017 she received a Women of Fire Award, recognizing key female leaders in the finance, insurance and real estate sectors. Arnold earned a B.S. degree in Economics from Quinnipiac College and is also a graduate of the Connecticut School of Finance and Management.
Arnold said, As a community bank, we have a key role in supporting the individuals and businesses located within our market area. I am excited to lead the Bank forward in the coming years, while building upon our solid 170-year history.

Donald Beckwith was named Senior Vice President, Chief Credit Officer. The newly created position will help to build new business and ensure the Banks lending portfolio quality is maintained. Mr. Beckwith joined the Bank in June 2002 as Vice President, Chief Lending Officer. His prior experience includes over 45 years in banking along the shoreline. Mr. Beckwith has managed virtually all aspects of lending in both the commercial and consumer arenas while balancing these duties with loan portfolio management and compliance. He has been an active member of the community having served on numerous boards. He holds a BS from the University of Connecticut and currently resides in North Haven with his wife.
Nathan Bordeleau was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Credit Officer from Credit Officer & Assistant Treasurer. Mr. Bordeleau joined Essex Savings Bank in April 2013 as a Credit Analyst, and was promoted to Senior Credit Analyst in June of 2016. Mr. Bordeleau received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Northeastern University and a Masters of Science in Accounting from the New England College. Essex Savings Bank Meets Opposition To Plans For Halls Road Service Plaza
OLD LYME At its Thursday meeting, the Halls Road Improvements Committee addressed two officers of Essex Savings Bank concerning the committees opposition to a Big Y Express gas station and convenience store proposed for a property on Halls Road that is owned by the bank.
One of our biggest concerns is putting in a gas station on this property goes in exactly the opposite direction of what we were trying to get to, said committee Chair Edie Twining, who said it was unlikely that the property will ever be redeveloped for another use once the infrastructure for a gas station is constructed.
Gregory Shook, president and chief executive officer of the bank, who attended the committees Webex meeting with Lynn Giroux, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of the bank, responded that the bank has invested $1.3 million to improve the aesthetics of its facility at 101 Halls Road, which is adjacent to the 1.33-acre parcel at 99 Halls Road and the connecting .85-acre parcel at 25 Neck Road where the gas station is proposed.
Clearly were very invested in the quality of life and the health of the people and businesses in all the areas we serve theyre all our clients, he said.
Shook said the bank had spoken with five or six people from the neighborhood about selling the property, but it just sat there.
Twining said that if property were re-zoned, the bank would have greater options for selling the property.
