Lowering Of Microbial Burden

Lyme Disease Natural Remedies and Treatment Dr. Berg

Antibiotics may be recommended for this arm of treatment. If a patient has failed or not responded to antibiotic therapy for chronic lyme in the past, in my experience they still may respond if the other three arms of treatment are added in. Herbal options, and especially ozone therapy, are excellent first choices if not an acute case.

When using these options, risks such as allergy and upper gut irritation with the herbs is a discussion. With antibiotics, the risk of resistance, lower GI issues including serious cases of diarrhea, allergy, are concerns to be discussed. Because of such risks, and the fact that my own experiences been that herbal options are often just as effective although somewhat slower to have clear changes, herbal options are often considered first.

The herbal options that I prefer include much of the newer research that has been published on especially japanese knotweed, cryptolepsis, as well as various essential oils. The classic formulas such as cats claw, Buhner herbs are useful. I do find favorable results with the formulas from Beyond balance as well.

Occasionally though, in my experience, even though the chronic lyme patient is getting full detoxification support, Herxheimer like reactions still occur. In these cases there are many in the office treatments that can help to calm the inflammation based on the individual assessment.

Customization And Precautions When Treating Lyme Disease

Remember that every person with Lyme disease is different not all will show all the common Lyme disease symptoms described above, suffer from deficiencies or deal with high amounts of stress. Thats why customization, patience and being open-minded are important. Different things for Lyme disease treatment work for different people, so dont lose hope.

If youre feeling overwhelmed by your Lyme disease symptoms. heres what I recommend:

  • Focus first on changing your diet. Reduce nutrient deficiencies, improve gut health and lower your intake of harmful ingredients that are found in processed/packaged foods.
  • Make sure to take it easy on yourself. Give yourself rest, sleep nine hours a night, reduce stress and address emotional issues. Remember that stress, guilt, anger and frustration only make things worse.
  • Then try different supplements. Listen to your body and try to pay close attention to what works bet.
  • Naturally overcoming Lyme disease can take time, so remember to not just treat Lyme but instead focus on getting your body into a healing state for good.

The Controversy Of Lyme Diagnosis

Diagnosis of Lyme disease is surprisingly controversial. Testing for Lyme and co-infections is complicated, and in acute cases, it can lead to false negative results that cause misdiagnosis and allow the disease to become chronic.

Standard testing involves a two tiered test: first, an ELISA is used to detect antibodies and if it is found positive, a Western Blot is performed to confirm the initial diagnosis. The problem with this testing technique is that the ELISA is not a sensitive test, especially during the first few months of infection.

When We Think About Why Lyme Disease So Easily Takes Over The Human Body We See That Inflammation Plays A Huge Role

Lyme Disease Prevention Tips + Ways to Naturally Treat

If the body is constantly putting out fires from everyday exposure to events or substances that cause inflammation , it has a much harder time when a real threat enters the body.

We have to focus on creating a foundation for health, which is simple but sometimes hard to implement in modern life. Rather than subscribing to a particular diet or detox to achieve this goal, I instead recommend returning to the basics. Eat food in its original unprocessed form. Limit sugar and alcohol intake. Drink fresh, filtered water as often as possible. Move your body. Create a healthy sleep schedule and take time during your day for short mental health breaks. Prioritize stress-relieving activities that bring you joy and peace. If it is too overwhelming to implement all these at once, work on one aspect of health at a time, and build upon that. Its never too late to start improving your bodys resilience.

Other Natural Treatments For Lyme Disease

The treatments discussed above are only some of the natural treatments that claim to treat Lyme disease. According to a 2015 study looking at the alternative treatments found during an Internet search, other natural treatments people use for Lyme disease include:

    • saunas and steam rooms

The investigators noted that theres no research backing up these treatments, any many dont have a logical rationale behind them.

    Healthy Vs Weak Cells

How all this plays out is a function of the health of cells as much as the aggressiveness of the bacteria: Cells that are weak from being chronically stressed are more vulnerable to invasion by bacteria.

A healthy person with healthy cells who is bitten by a tick may not have much in the way of acute symptoms and may never develop chronic symptoms. It doesnt mean, however, that the bacteria have been eradicated from the body. They can stay dormant in tissues for a lifetime.

All it takes is a shift in the health of cells for dormant bacteria to surface and invade more cells. The immune system scrambles to keep a lid on things as bacteria erupt and infect other cells. Dead cells break apart and create debris. Macrophages secrete acid and free radicals to break down debris. Reinforcements are called in. More acid. More free radicals. More collateral damage. More debris. Flow of nutrients and oxygen is obstructed and cells are weakened even further.

The invasion intensifies as more cells are infected. Along with inflicting injury to cells in tissues, bacteria infect and kill WBCs. In addition, bacteria throw the immune system off balance by disrupting the cytokines the immune system uses to coordinate the resistance. As the process spirals out of control, the immune system loses the capacity to keep microbes in check.

Before long, tissues throughout the body start to look like a war zone. Cells suffer. Symptoms result. It becomes a never-ending cycle of misery.

Making Dietary Changes For Immune Function

One of the best ways to help your body is to support your immune system. Your body can begin to support Lyme disease when you begin to control the changes that it has made to your body.

Most experts recommend removing inflammatory foods like grains, and sugar from your diet, while ensuring that you consume more anti-inflammatory foods like seeds, vegetables, raw cultured dairy and organic meat.

This is a tremendous development in the individualized approach to healing Lyme disease, as different people will need different aspects of their immunity adjusted to effectively eradicate the infection. In addition to its anti-inflammatory actions, this botanical reduces fatigue and is a potent antioxidant .

Situations Where The Addition Of Synthetic Antibiotics May Prove Beneficial

    • Ehrlichia, anaplasma, and rickettsia. These microbes have a higher potential to cause severe disease and less likelihood of chronic disease after treatment of the initial infection. When chronic disease does occur, it is generally characterized by long asymptomatic periods with the microbe hidden in isolated locations in the body followed by relapse of acute symptoms . Relapses should be treated like an initial infection with doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 30 days or until 3 days after symptoms subside.
    • Chronic babesia infection. Babesia is characterized by relapsing high fever or positive test for babesia . Sometimes triple antibiotic therapy is required to eradicate severe babesia infection. Current guidelines for babesia should be followed. Natural therapy for protozoan infections can accompany conventional therapy.
    • Persistent severe Lyme symptoms refractory to natural therapy. If chronic infection has been present long term and a persons immune status is severely depressed, pulsed antibiotic therapy may provide benefit . Antibiotics should never be continued for more than 30 days at a time and a 30 day break should be taken between episodes of antibiotics to allow the system to recover. Rotating different antibiotics may decrease bacterial resistance. Whether to use multiple antibiotics simultaneously is unknown and may disrupt the microbiome even further.

Five Herbal Medicines Potent Against Tick

Research supported by Bay Area Lyme Foundation points to need for more effective treatments compared to currently utilized treatments for tick-borne infections

    TellMed Strategies

PORTOLA VALLEY, CA, March 9, 2021 — Bay Area Lyme Foundation, a leading sponsor of Lyme disease research in the U.S., today announced the publication of new data finding that five herbal medicines had potent activity compared to commonly-used antibiotics in test tubes against Babesia duncani, a malaria-like parasite found on the West Coast of the U.S. that causes the disease babesiosis. Published in the journal Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, the laboratory study was funded in part by the Bay Area Lyme Foundation. Collaborating researchers were from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, California Center for Functional Medicine, and FOCUS Health Group, Naturopathic.

“This research is particularly important as babesiosis is a significant emerging health risk. Due to limited therapeutics and a rise in treatment resistance, current treatment options for this disease are inadequate and many patients rely on herbal therapies for which there is only anecdotal evidence of efficacy,” said co-author Sunjya K. Schweig, MD, Founder and Director, California Center for Functional Medicine and Scientific Advisory Board Member, Bay Area Lyme Foundation, who has also studied herbal treatments for Lyme disease.

Lyme disease can be hard to diagnose because many of its symptoms look like those of other illnesses, and there is no definitive lab test for Lyme disease. About 20% of people with Lyme disease do not get a rash. Tell your doctor if you think you may have been bitten by a tick. Your doctor may order these tests:

    • ELISA test, which detects antibodies to the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. This test may result in false positives.
    • Western blot test, which detects antibodies to proteins of the bacteria
    • Polymerase chain reaction , which detects bacteria in joint fluid and is used for people who may have Lyme arthritis.

    Apple Cider Vinegar Lugol’s Iodine

    Stevia kills Lyme disease

    lyme disease

I have been using 1 tsp.organic ACV, 1 tsp. organic honey and one drop of Lugol’s iodine in water that has fluoride and chlorine filtered from it. Filter pitcher is on amazon. I take it with breakfast and lunch and dinner I take the ACV and honey without the iodine. Seems to be the best thing I have ever tried. I may increase the iodine to two drops because it is really giving me a tiny bit of energy in just a week.

I learned about my LD just four months ago and realize I have had it my entire life. I had already been taking Iodoral and ACV with honey at 25mg per day. Recently, I upped it to 100mg a day, dividing the doses between Iodoral and Lugol’s, because of my gum disease. My gums have quieted down and I am feeling good. I am shocked that iodine isn’t first on the list for treating lyme.

Not everyone with lyme or born with it would be dead already! I have had it 20 plus years there are over 30 strains and each case varies. Please do not instill fear in others with such a general statement. I live on Cape Cod and most of us have some form or the antibioties! They are so many factors that must be considered diet enviorment and emotional toxins lifestlye etc

Lots of useless information. Does any one know what to do other than he said she said comments? If anyone knows of an effective TREATMENT / CURE please share it with us. Have a happy day and a merry Christmas, Robert LovemyAmber

What Are The Stages Of Lyme Infection

    There are three stages:

    • Early localized Lyme: Flu-like symptoms like fever, chills, headache, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, and a rash that looks like a bulls-eye or is round and red and at least 2 inches long
    • Early disseminated Lyme: Flu-like symptoms like pain, weakness, or numbness in your arms and legs, changes in your vision, heart palpitations and chest pain, a rash , and a type of facial paralysis known as Bellâs palsy
    • Late disseminated Lyme: This can happen weeks, months, or years after the tick bite. Symptoms might include arthritis, severe fatigue and headaches, dizziness, trouble sleeping, and confusion.

About 10% of people treated for Lyme infection donât shake the disease. They may go on to have three core symptoms: joint or muscle pain, fatigue, and short-term memory loss or confusion. This is called post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome. It can be hard to diagnose because it has the same symptoms as other diseases. Plus, there isnt a blood test to confirm it.

Experts arenât sure why Lyme symptoms donât always go away. One theory is that your body keeps fighting the infection even after the bacteria are gone, like an autoimmune disorder.

    Natural Lyme Disease Treatment

Natural Treatment for Lyme Disease: are antibiotics really necessary?

I am asked frequently whether it is possible to recover from Lyme disease without the use of antibiotics. Its a great question, but unfortunately not one for which I have a definitive answer. Rather, my answer is sometimes. I wish I could tell people that of course they can treat their Lyme disease 100% naturally and have great outcomes every time, but that is just not realistic.

I definitely have patients who I work with without the use of antibiotics, where herbal antimicrobials and immune support, coupled with dietary changes and other supportive nutritional supplements have recovered them to the point where they are back out in their lives, either completely symptom free or at 90-95% of their normal level of functioning. I love these cases as they really reinforce the power of natural medicine, and show us that God has instilled healing properties in the plants He has given us.

More often than not, when patients opt for all-natural treatment, I select a variety of modalities to cover as many bases as possible. An example is to combine the immune-supportive properties of transfer factors , with herbal antimicrobials , with Lyme-specific homeopathic remedies, and as I said, base all of that on a solid foundation of good nutrition. We want to address the infection from several directions at once to maximize the impact and our success. Supporting detoxification and digestive support are important here.

The Cowden Support Program | A natural treatment for Lyme Disease

Lyme, and many of its co-infections, are common in companion animals, although Lyme can infect nearly all animals on the planet. A number of people, concerned about their pets, and exasperated at the lack of progress by their vets, reported good success once they began using the protocol I developed for people on their dogs .

So, I want to share it with you too.

Here are 6 natural treatment options for Lyme disease in dogs.

Generally, improvements begin to occur within two to four weeks.

Please note that all of the herbs can be given simultaneously and all the herbs may be used along with antibiotics. Also, if your dog is very small, use smaller doses, if larger use more. The doses I am giving here are for a medium sized dog. And yes, you can use liquid formulations as well. I just prefer to use the herbs themselves.

Can You Live A Long Life With Lyme Disease

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the severity of Lyme disease symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. Some people with Lyme disease may experience only mild symptoms that go away on their own, while others may develop more severe symptoms that require long-term treatment. In some cases, Lyme disease can even be fatal. The best way to protect yourself from Lyme disease is to avoid being bitten by ticks, especially in areas where the disease is common. If you do develop symptoms of Lyme disease, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible for treatment.

Bacteria that enter the body through ticks cause Lyme disease. Even if the infection is not actively present, the tests reveal antibodies in the body, making it difficult to diagnose the disease. Even though Lyme disease can cause some mild symptoms, it can also cause minor ones. ticks are the only ones who cause Lyme disease. Because the bacteria that cause Lyme disease reside in the deeper layers of the skin, sexual contact is impossible. As a patient of Lyme disease, you will be able to complete all of your normal tasks. This is true only in the initial stages of disease.
