Natural Treatment for Lyme Disease: are antibiotics really necessary?

I am asked frequently whether it is possible to recover from Lyme disease without the use of antibiotics. Its a great question, but unfortunately not one for which I have a definitive answer. Rather, my answer is sometimes. I wish I could tell people that of course they can treat their Lyme disease 100% naturally and have great outcomes every time, but that is just not realistic.

I definitely have patients who I work with without the use of antibiotics, where herbal antimicrobials and immune support, coupled with dietary changes and other supportive nutritional supplements have recovered them to the point where they are back out in their lives, either completely symptom free or at 90-95% of their normal level of functioning. I love these cases as they really reinforce the power of natural medicine, and show us that God has instilled healing properties in the plants He has given us.

More often than not, when patients opt for all-natural treatment, I select a variety of modalities to cover as many bases as possible. An example is to combine the immune-supportive properties of transfer factors , with herbal antimicrobials , with Lyme-specific homeopathic remedies, and as I said, base all of that on a solid foundation of good nutrition. We want to address the infection from several directions at once to maximize the impact and our success. Supporting detoxification and digestive support are important here.

Homeopathic Medicine For Treating Lyme Disease

With the great summer weather in full swing, you want to participate in outdoor activities, but cant understand why you are suffering from symptoms you typically get during the flu season. You feel fatigued. Perhaps you have chills, muscle aches, joint pains, headaches, and even swollen glands.

Having the summer flu is one possibility, but you may also be in the early stages of Lyme disease.

The diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease have been controversial topics in recent years. Canadian patients get the runaround from many doctors who dismiss even the existence of Lyme disease, while doctors who do diagnose and treat patients become in danger of losing their licences. Many cases of Lyme disease are misdiagnosed, partly due to the lack of awareness by physicians, and partly because the outdated medical testing procedure, known in medical literature to produce up to 90 percent false negative results, is still used in Canada. Consequently, people infected with Lyme disease go undiagnosed, receive erroneous treatments for side effects of the disease, and suffer unnecessarily.

Homeopathy offers a viable solution in all stages of Lyme disease. Whether you have recently been infected or are suffering from long-term complications of Lyme disease, homeopathy can set you on your path to recovery and completely restore your health. Most importantly, you do not need a diagnosis or label in order to benefit from homeopathy and recover from Lyme disease.

Garlic Myrrh Thyme Kill B Burgdorferi

Dr. Zhang and his team had previously found some highly active essential oils that were effective against biofilm and stationary phase B. burgdorferi.

In this new study, the researchers screened another 35 essential oils for their antibacterial properties. Using pressed essential oils from plants or their fruits, the researchers tested the activity of the plants fragrant essence.

Lab-dish tests revealed that ten of these 35 plants have strong activity against the latent, persister forms of Lyme disease. These essential oils derived from garlic cloves, myrrh trees, thyme leaves, cinnamon bark, allspice berries, cumin seeds, and eucalyptus, among others.

We found that these essential oils were even better at killing the persister forms of Lyme bacteria than standard Lyme antibiotics.

Dr. Ying Zhang

Also, five of these oils were effective against dormant forms of Lyme bacteria in a concentration of only 1 part per 1,000. Specifically, essential oils from garlic bulbs, allspice berries, myrrh trees, spiked ginger lily, and may chang trees completely eradicated all Lyme disease bacteria in 7 days, and no regrowth occurred in 21 days.

Thyme leaves, cumin seeds, Amyris wood, and cinnamon bark oil were also highly effective against stationary phase B. burgdorferi.

If tests in rodents confirm their cell culture findings, Zhang and colleagues will start organizing human clinical trials.

Top 5 Natural Remedies For Lyme Disease

We’ve talked about the importance of antibiotics when it comes to this condition, but there is something many people don’t know they should also be doingsupporting their immune system. They don’t know because medical professionals rarely tell them.

You have to salvage your immune system and build up tissue again. This is one of the best things you can do during recovery. These five natural remedies for Lyme disease will help you do it.

Natural Remedies For The Chronic Inflammation Of Lyme Disease

Everyone knows that inflammation isnt good, especially when it becomes chronic. But to do something about it, you need to understand whats driving the inflammation in the first place.

Though you cant actually see chronic inflammation, you can certainly feel it. It manifests as joint discomfort, stiffness, general achiness, fatigue, low stamina, brain fog, slow mental activity, depressed mood, and all the other symptoms associated with chronic Lyme disease. Simply put, you feel inflamed.

The root of inflammation is excessive turnover of cells. We all lose cells, and up to a certain point, its perfectly normal. Cells in the body are constantly wearing out, getting injured, or being invaded by microbes. In fact, we typically lose 50-70 billion cells every day. While much of cellular turnover is accounted for by cells that are shed from the body, such as skin and intestinal cells, tissues inside the body are losing cells, too.

When cells die, they break apart and create debris. If enough debris collects in tissues, it obstructs the flow of water, nutrients, and oxygen that cells need to stay healthy. At the same time, metabolic waste produced by cells is trapped around the cell, which, of course, isnt a good thing. If enough debris collects, cells start to choke in their own waste.

What Is Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is an infection caused by a spirochete bacterium transmitted to humans through infected ticks of two species of wild deer called the white-tailed deer and the western black-legged deer. The disease can be debilitating if not diagnosed early on

The white-tailed deer that are in North America have been experimentally infected in laboratories in New York State in 1903, Pennsylvania in 1983, and Wisconsin in 2008. The Lyme disease bacteria have also been found within Europe so it is difficult to say where it originated.

Review Of The Medical Literature

The Cowden Support Program | A natural treatment for Lyme Disease

Scientific studies supporting the efficacy of any of the treatments discussed above could not be found on review of the medical literature. Most of the cited treatments were never evaluated with any scientific study, although we did find that a few treatments were evaluated in studies that either were poorly designed or had unclear relevance to human disease.

Two studies are worth mentioning in more detail. A study of combination therapy with cholestyramine-atovaquone enrolled 25 patients with persistent symptoms after being diagnosed with and treated for babesiosis-Lyme disease coinfection . In this study, however, all patients received cholestyramine for the entirety of the trial, so no inferences could be made about its therapeutic efficacy.

The effect of hyperbaric oxygen on strains of B. burgdorferi was assessed both in vitro and in experimentally infected mice in one study . The investigators found that growth of the organism in vitro was inhibited by hyperbaric oxygen in 14 of 17 cultures. In addition, the organism was cultivable from the bladders of only 20% of mice treated with hyperbaric oxygen, compared with 90% of untreated mice. No study of this therapy in humans with Lyme disease has ever been published.

Lyme Disease Natural Treatment Safety

If you decide to explore natural treatments for Lyme disease, talk to your doctor about the risks beforehand. Natural treatments, just like traditional treatments, can still be toxic or dangerous. But in combination with medical treatment, a complementary approach might improve health.

For example, a product called bismacine contains an injectable form of bismuth. This is a type of metal thats a common ingredient in some digestive aids. But bismacine contains a higher dose of bismuth thats injectable. Injecting a high dose of bismuth can cause bismuth poisoning, which can lead to heart and kidney failure.

Other natural treatments may interact with other medications or supplements you take. Your doctor can help you confirm whether any medications you currently take will interact with treatment youre interested in trying.

Lyme Disease Treatment And Prevention Tips

By Leah Zerbe, MS, NASM-CPT, NASM-CES

Lyme disease is a complicated infection that is caused by bacteria thats transmitted from a tick or insect bite. The majority of cases of Lyme are due to a bite from a type of deer tick known as the black-legged tick, which can carry and pass on bacteria known as borrelia burgdorferi.

According to the Michigan Lyme Disease Association, more recently its also been found that other insects can also spread Lyme disease or cause similar infections including other types of ticks, mosquitoes, and possibly spiders or fleas.

Overall, up to 300,000 Americans are diagnosed with Lyme disease every year, according to new research from the Centers of Disease Control , and many seek Lyme disease treatment. Lyme disease cases are largely concentrated in the Northeast and upper Midwest, with 14 states accounting for over 96 percent of cases reported to CDC.

Lyme disease symptoms can start with flulike symptoms, headaches, muscle and joint pain. Over time, the symptoms can continue to worsen and turn into a long-lived inflammatory response that is similar to an autoimmune illness.

Protocol For Lyme Disease Using Homeopathy

If you dont believe that homeopathy can uproot Lyme disease, this weeks blog is not for you.

But if youre like me and know that homeopathy has cured the likes of cholera, dysentery, mono, strep, influenza and other such infective illnesses, then read on, and Ill share with you what I have learned and used regarding homeopathy and Lyme.

I will not discuss long-term, chronic Lyme as this is something a seasoned homeopath would need to be consulted on personally. Having said this, Ive seen some remarkable cases that were many years old come round with good homeopathic treatment.

Lets start with what can be done at the onset of the tick bite. Follow the most recent medical recommendations for removing the tick and do so as soon as possible. Save the tick by placing it in a covered jar with either 180 proof vodka, grain alcohol or brandy and label the date, on whom it was found and where on the body.

If all else fails , the tick can be made into a homeopathic remedy. This is actually known as isopathy, but it works under similar principles. Ill discuss how this kind of remedy is made in a forthcoming blog. But for now, just keep the tick in a jar.
