What Is Cirs Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome

Lyme Diseases and Acupuncture

We are all exposed daily to bacteria, viruses and toxins in our environment. Our bodies have amazingly effective immune systems which activate when exposed to bacteria, viruses and biological toxins We are all familiar with immunizations which help our bodies fight some particularly nasty illnesses. When our immune systems activate, we create antibodies to rid ourselves of the foreign invaders.

Everyone gets one immune response gene from each parent. There are 54 immune response genes in humans. Six of those 54 gene types do not have a pattern to make antibodies to biotoxins. Consequently, some human immune systems are unable to make antibodies to certain biotoxins found in the environment. This means the immune system is activated and goes to battle against the invader, but can never win the battle, because there is no antibody pattern to rid the body of the biotoxins. It is like getting the flu but never getting rid of the virus that is causing it, so you never get better.

Lyme Treatment Success With Chinese Medicine

Lyme and similar devastating stealth infections are on a rise across the world. Chinese medicine practitioners across the United States and beyond are being faced with patients with illnesses that are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to treat.

Many of us are drawn to Chinese medicine for its refined holistic diagnostic approach and untapped range of plant, dietary, and lifestyle medicines that can heal all types of infections and symptoms. We have a rich tradition to draw from, yet most practitioners still feel overwhelmed and unable to knowledgably lead these enigmatic patients out of the woods and into full health and disease resilience.

The real problem is not the effectiveness of Chinese medicine to treat these problems, but our ability as practitioners to:

  • Recognize the true underlying causes of chronic multi-system inflammatory disease.
  • Know how to navigate the maze of diagnostic and treatment options and be positive leaders for our patients.
  • Understand how to wield the tools of Chinese medicine most effectively to create powerful results for this unique patient population.

Acupuncture For Lyme Disease

Massage: Complementary in Lyme Treatment

Acupuncture is a centuries old form of treatment and an important component in traditional Chinese medicine . TCM is more often called alternative medicine in the United States, mostly due to the fact that it is not a science-based method of treatmenttherefore, these are called pseudo-sciences.

Acupuncture is the practice of relieving joint and muscle pain by means of inserting thin needles into the skin. This form of therapy has also been known to help alleviate various other forms of musculoskeletal issues. Lyme patients and Doctors alike have noticed immense improvement in their symptoms, such as chronic fatigue and emotional distress, due to the practices of acupuncture. It has also been noted that acupuncture can help in boosting the immune system, as well.

It is important to note that acupuncture, which can have positive effects on its own, is often used in conjunction with other forms of more traditional therapies or herbs to help the body to continue to cope and heal. Cupping, another TCM treatment, is often confused with Acupuncture. The two therapies are quite different. While they are both used to relieve pain, cupping also has the added component of detoxing the body of harsh toxins that have built up over time.

Recent Chronic Lyme Case

A 27-year-old woman came to our clinic having been diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease five years earlier. She was unable to work due to debilitating fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration, and pain in her joints and muscles. No Western medical treatment had been able to help her, but she did find some relief working with functional medicine doctors who prescribed supplements. However, her daily quality of life was still low, and she sought out acupuncture to see if it could help.

After conducting an intake exam, we determined her Chinese pattern diagnosis to be Spleen qi deficiency with dampness accumulation in the joints. We created a treatment plan and began treating her once a week. After four sessions, we evaluated her progress. Pain levels had decreased by about 20 percent, while energy and mental acuity levels also improved. She was encouraged by this outcome and decided to continue treatment every other week.

Two months later, our patient felt 50 percent better across the boards, which was the most significant improvement she had experienced since the onset of Lymes five years earlier. Since then, she has come in for maintenance treatments once a month to help sustain the benefits. Acupuncture did not cure her Lyme disease but significantly improved the quality of her life.

Lyme disease is transmitted by ticks which carry the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. Common symptoms include fatigue, fever, and skin rashes. If it is not treated right away, the bacteria will invade the nervous system, causing memory loss, depression, and arthritis. Treatment for Lyme disease involves long stretches of antibiotic use, which damages your digestive system by killing the natural bacteria in your intestines. Acupuncture is a beneficial complement to antibiotic treatment by improving your digestion, so that you experience fewer side effects from the antibiotics. In addition, acupuncture helps facilitate tissue recovery, so that even if bacteria has invaded joint and heart tissues, acupuncture will aid in the recovery of these damaged tissues. Things like your bodys own natural anti-inflammatory substances, painkillers, and immune cells. Boost your immunity and health with acupuncture!

If you want to boost your immunity, and get relief from the symptoms of Lyme Disease, acupuncture is the answer!

Lyme disease by now is the best-known, worldwide example of a tick-borne disease. Many people have Lyme disease without experiencing any discomfort from symptoms. Many others are struggling with complex symptoms of Lyme, but are unaware that they are infected.

Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected tick, specifically deer ticks. This tick, which is infested with a spirochete, bites a human and transmits the bacterium into the bloodstream. The symptoms typically appear within 7 to 14 days. A simple blood test is all that is required to determine if Lyme disease is present.

Lyme disease produces toxins and lipoproteins which trigger the immune system to produce many different kinds of inflammation.

Typical symptoms include joint ache, a rash on the skin that often looks like a bulls eye, headaches, fever, profuse sweating and fatigue, and neurological issues, though all of the symptoms are not present in every case.

Boost your whole familys immunity with acupuncture!

Lyme disease imitates a variety of illnesses and its severity can vary from person to person. Early detection and treatment is vital in preventing Lyme disease from advancing to the later stages.

Lyme Disease Treatment: 2 Herbal Compounds May Beat Antibiotics

Lyme disease transmitted via tick bite affects thousands of people in the United States and around the world. Currently, doctors use antibiotics to treat it, but could plant-based remedies be more effective?

Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi .

The disease spreads to humans through the bite of a tick that carries the bacterium, and it affects an estimated each year in the U.S. alone.

Currently, healthcare professionals choose between three antibiotics in the treatment of Lyme disease. These are doxycycline, cefuroxime, and amoxicillin.

Sometimes, however, antibiotics are not effective in eradicating all traces of B. burgdorferi from the system, which means that the disease can persist.

When this happens, bacterial cells that have developed antibiotic resistance can continue to proliferate. These are known as persister cells .

Because of this, researchers have been looking into alternative modes of fighting the bacterium, and their first line of inquiry has focused on natural remedies.

In 2018, an in vitro study suggested that 10 plant-derived essential oils could help fight off B. burgdorferi.

Now, researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD, and from the California Center for Functional Medicine and Focus Health in Berkeley, have conducted a new study that has led them to believe that two specific plants may lead to more effective therapies against Lyme disease.

Neck Pain And Back Pain Treatment

to watch or video on Neck Pain Acupuncture Demonstration.

Important nerves that affect every part of the body travel from through the neck from the brain on their way to the rest of the body. As a result, tightness in the neck not only causes neck pain, but could also lead to back pain and tingling in the extremities. Acupuncture on the neck instantly relaxes those muscles, reducing pressure on the nerves and pain in other affected areas of the body such as the back. When combined with daily stretching exercises, acupuncture can help even chronic sufferers of back pain and neck pain find relief.

Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear. When knee joints are swollen, patients cannot walk in a normal gait. In the long run, the changed gait can put too much pressure on the hip joints. Acupuncture helps to reduce the inflammation of the knee joint. Acupuncture can also help resume the balance between different joints, muscles and tendons. Liu YH published research about knee osteoarthritis in Am J. Chin Med. 2017. He verified that acupuncture not only can help reduce knee pain, but it can also rebalance the muscles and tendons around knee and hip joints.

The Characteristics Of Gu Diseases

Gu, as described in the classical Chinese medical texts, is characterized by a complex disease picture that first and foremost is triggered by infection from a parasitic organism such as Borreliosis burgdorferi, Babesia, or Bartonella.

Next, it often manifests in a combination of digestive, mental/cognitive, and nervous system symptoms such as insomnia and anxiety.

It is understood to:

  • Be a disease experience that feels like a terrible calamity, like the worst thing that has or could ever happen to you. Lyme patients will often say I feel like Im dying, I feel like Im being tortured, or I cant take any more. This is a trademark characteristic of Gu syndrome.
  • Involve nonsensical or inexplicable symptoms such as a seizure-like experience that doesnt show up on an EEG or sensations that patients have a hard time putting into. This is common with Lyme disease and with Gu.
  • Typically, medical diagnostic exams turn up nothing. Both Lyme and Gu are the diagnosis thats left when all else has been proven negative.
  • Gu pathogens also act as a type of toxin or poison . We know this is true in Lyme disease because its corroborated by the fact that the metabolic byproducts of parasitic organisms are known to have a toxic effect on the body. Since the 7th century, classical Chinese medical texts have stated that Gu can transform itself into harmful toxins.

If you think you have been bitten by a tick, contact your doctor. If you have been bitten and are displaying signs and symptoms of Lyme disease, especially if you live or have visited an area where this illness occurs, contact your Lyme-literate doctor to begin Lyme disease treatment as soon as possible. If your signs and symptoms diminish, it doesnt mean the illness is gone. You will still want to contact your doctor to prevent the infection from spreading and becoming a chronic condition.

The Most Important Elements Of Lyme Treatment With Chinese Medicine

Successful treatment of complex chronic disease requires a multi-layered, strategic treatment approach. There are numerous strategies that we apply in different cases depending on the symptom presentation, diagnoses, and what phase of healing they are in.

However, there are 3 crucial treatment strategies that are foundational to nearly all cases of chronic Lyme disease. They are:

  • Rebuild and restore the life force energy flow. This is the central factor around which our treatment plans are built and the primary principle that we use to navigate treatment decisions with our patients. This translates into TCM terms as tonifying the patients qi, blood, yin, and yang .

One of the unique and critical aspects of successful Gu treatment is that all the tonic herbs that we use for rebuilding the deficiencies also have detoxifying properties. A few common examples are gan cao, dang gui, and huang qi .

Lyme Disease has long been a problem in the United States but Chronic Lyme Disease is beginning to be recognized as an even greater and more insidious threat to the qualities of American lives. Acupuncture and Chinese herbology work simultaneously to boost the imnune system and elimate any lingering infection which may be sapping the body’s strength.
