Reasons To Choose Herbs

Plants have to deal with a wide range of microbes, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi, just like any other living creature. Not having an immune system, plants deal with the problem by producing a sophisticated spectrum of biochemical substances called phytochemicals. Instead of one chemical, like an antibiotic, a medicinal herb contains hundreds of phytochemicals that suppress microbes in different ways therefore resistance is almost unheard of, even with very long-term use. Some herbs provide more potent antimicrobial properties than others. While herbs would never be a good choice for treating a life-threatening illness like pneumonia, they are perfect for suppressing stealth microbes associated with chronic illness.

Different herbs offer a slightly different range of benefits, therefore multiple herbs can be used together to cover for all possible stealth microbes involved. In fact, this is the preferred way of doing herbal therapy . This provides for a wide spectrum of activity against a wide range of microbial threats. You can think of it as an orchestra of healing the sum of multiple herbs is more powerful than each herb individually.

Over the millennia, humans naturally selected certain plant substances for use as medicines. These plants, now known as medicinal herbs, have chemistry that meshes well with human biochemistry. Not surprisingly, medicinal herbs are well tolerated by most people and can be safely used for extended periods of time.

Testing For Lyme Disease In Dogs

Lyme disease spread by ticks can be diagnosed with a simple blood tests in your veterinarians clinic. The C6 test is very sensitive and specific at diagnosing cases of Lyme disease and depending on clinical signs and concurrent results, treatment may be started immediately. If treatment has been successful, reductions in the QC6 at six months should be lower than the starting point.

Treatment For Chronic Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease: States Where You

Sometimes, people go through treatment for Lyme disease but their symptoms donât go away. If this lasts over 6 months, itâs known as chronic Lyme disease or âpost-treatment Lyme disease syndromeâ .

Doctors still arenât sure why some people get PTLDS. Some believe that getting Lyme disease may cause damage to your tissues or immune system. Others believe itâs because the bacteria that causes Lyme hasnât completely gone away.

There is little evidence that taking more antibiotics at this stage will help. They may actually be harmful. Instead, your doctor will focus on treating the symptoms youâre still having. This will be different for everyone. Some people could benefit from a medicine that relieves fatigue, while others may need a drug that can help with headaches or very sensitive skin.

Your doctor could also have you try a treatment that helps people with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia.

More research is needed to figure out how best to treat PTLDS. Itâs something that can be frustrating. Just remember: Many people who have this condition do start feeling like their old selves after a few months.

Other Pathogens To Blame

Shor and his co-authors, including Maloney, propose that the lingering symptoms are caused by several pathogens from the Borrelia burgdorferi family or other tick-borne pathogens.

Nardelli said theres a variety of symptoms and severity in Lyme disease patients, and those symptoms can be caused by the inflammatory responses against the microbes.

“Inflammation is a huge part of the immune response. Its one of the frontline defenses we have, and it has this negative connotation, but it is intended for good,” he said. “Your immune response trying to kill the bug and in doing so, can cause damage, essentially.”

Some theories suggest that variants of the Lyme bacteria are resistant to antibiotics. Others argue that chronic Lyme is caused by a powerful immune reaction or it may even trigger an autoimmune disease. The central neural networks may be altered, having a significant impact on symptoms or a combination of these factors.

Nardelli is investigating Lyme-related arthritis that persists after treatment with antibiotics. He said science can be a slow process of acquiring new knowledge, and its tough for patients who are suffering with no clear answers.

That can lead them to seek out untrustworthy practitioners or fall for costly treatments that dont work. “You go out and find doctors that diagnose everything as Lyme disease,” Nardelli said.

“The whole goal is to get people the right diagnosis so they can get the therapy that they need,” she said.

Strategies For Finding A Good Lyme Doctor

The first thing I did after my Lyme diagnosis was spend as much time and mental energy as I could researching Lyme disease. I needed to understand a little more what treatment options were available and how they compared.

I had a general idea that I wanted to find a good integrative LLMD to help guide me through the treatment process. I wanted a doctor who would take the best that modern medicine has to offer while also understanding what other alternative treatment modalities could bring to the table.

  • Determine what kind of treatment you want to pursue. Are you looking for a doctor who leans primarily on antibiotics and prescription medications? One who primarily uses alternative treatments? Or a doctor who uses both?
  • Collect names of potential doctors using reputable websites. There are several websites that will give you referrals for LLMDs. Some of my favorites are the following:
  • Lyme Disease Associate Doctor Referral
  • State-Specific Lyme Facebook Groups
  • Check the doctors out. Dont just go with the first Lyme doctor you find. Since most good LLMDs dont accept insurance, youll want to make sure youre not wasting your money or time on a dud.
  • Look for doctor reviews online or in online forums.
  • Join Lyme groups on Facebook and ask about the doctors youre considering.
  • Find local Lyme support groups to attend where youll be able to ask about the doctors people are seeing and learn what their track record is.
  • Good luck on your doctor search!

    My Chronic Lyme Disease Journey

Long Haul Lyme Disease Risk Found: Even in Early Treated Patients | Johns Hopkins Rheumatology

    Updated 7/30/20

Likely, you have come to this page in hopes of sorting out some of the confusion surrounding Lyme disease.

There is so much controversy around this disease because most doctors dont understand it. Even many doctors who consider themselves Lyme experts or Lyme literate medical doctors do not completely comprehend its complexities.

But I have one qualification that most other physicians do not. My life and a busy medical career were disrupted midstream by Lyme disease, though obtaining that diagnosis was quite the journey through multiple diagnoses including fibromyalgia.

My late 40s were marked by debilitating fatigue, tremendous brain fog, aching all over, burning in my feet and tingling in my hands, skin rashes, joint pain, chest pain, heart palpitations, mood changes, and poor sleep. I know what its like to start and end every day feeling like you have a terrible flu. Over several years, I experienced virtually every known symptom of Lyme disease.

Ultimately, this caused me to stop practicing obstetrics. But because I didnt have a firm diagnosis at the time, declaring disability wasnt an option. As an alternative, I started a less demanding primary care practice that did not require nightcall. The practice provided me with the environment I needed to recover. I had control over my work hours and the intensity of the work.

Our Daughter Got Her Life Back

Our lives were thrown into disarray when our daughter began having chronic, unpredictable symptoms that got worse over time. None of the doctors we saw were able to give us a specific diagnosis and treatment plan. Dr. Kenneth Bock and his team of medical detectives were the answer to our prayers. Dr. Bock took the time to listen to the story of our daughters illness and put together a complete medical and environmental assessment. He diagnosed her condition and developed a personalized treatment plan that restored our lives to normalcy. What Are The Symptoms Of Lyme Disease In A Child

Symptoms can occur a bit differently in each child. They usually appear within 3 to 30 days after a tick bite. Lyme disease has early and late-stage symptoms. Early stage Lyme disease is more easily cured with antibiotics than late-stage disease. Most cases of late-stage disease occur when early stage disease is not treated.

One of the most common symptoms is a ring-shaped rash that looks like a bulls-eye. It may be pink in the center and have a darker red ring around it. The rash does not occur in every case of Lyme. If it does occur, the rash may:

    • Appear several days after infection
    • Last up to several weeks
    • Be very small or very large, up to 12 inches across
    • Look like other skin problems such as hives, eczema, sunburn, poison ivy, or flea bites
    • Itch or feel hot, or not be felt at all
    • Go away and come back several weeks later

Several days or weeks after a bite from an infected tick, your child may have multiple ring-shaped rashes on the body and flu-like symptoms such as:

    • Headache

Months to a few years after a bite, these symptoms may occur:

    • Inflammation of the joints
    • Nervous system symptoms such as numbness in the arms and legs, tingling and pain, and trouble with speech, memory, and concentration

The symptoms of Lyme disease can be like other health conditions. Make sure your child sees a healthcare provider for a diagnosis.

    Other Surprising Lyme Disease Symptoms

So many people are walking around with inexplicable health conditions and baffling symptoms.

Conventional doctors are often perplexed by the striking range of symptoms, leading to severe misdiagnosis. Patients are often brushed off as hypochondriacs or having mental illnesses neither of which leads to a resolution.

The tsunami of symptoms is not some strange mystery illness. Its often simply Lyme Disease that can manifest as:

    • Flu-like symptoms Fever, chills, fatigue, body aches, and a headache may accompany the rash.
    • Joint pain If the infection is not treated, bouts of severe joint pain and swelling, weakness and arthritis may occur, particularly in the knees.
    • Unexplained Symptoms Brain Fog, malaise, fatigue, dizziness, aches and pains, headaches, anxiety, mood swings, depression, abdominal pains, nausea, diarrhea, sleep disturbances, stiff neck
    • Neurological problems In some cases, untreated infection resulting from Lyme disease may result in inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain , temporary paralysis of one side of the face and weakness, numbness, tingling, shooting pains or burning in different parts of the body or limbs.

Many patients are startled to discover their poor health is the result of having Lyme Disease.

Why Lyme Disease Keeps Spreading in the U.S. By Susan Abram

May 26, 2015. Fundamental research into the causes and cures of post-treatmentLymedisease syndrome now has its first home base at a major U.S. medical research center with the launch of the Johns Hopkins LymeDisease Clinical Research Center earlier this month. First discovered in Lyme, Connecticut, 40 years ago, Lymedisease has spread. Every year, about 400,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with Lyme borreliosis, commonly known as Lymedisease, based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates of reporting. This does not include cases of Tick-Borne Relapsing Fever , which is caused by another group of Borrelia but has similar symptoms to those of Lymedisease. That’s more than the number. Books & Products Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is paying California-based Kaiser Permanente 8,000 to test and interview patients Like most Morgellons sufferers, I began to try many different products I you should see a physician and he prescribes anti-pshycotic drugs, demand that the only ones you be given, be an anti-anxiety medication.

Why And What To Do When Antibiotics Fail

When used in the early stages of Lyme disease, antibiotics can work. The problem is that Lyme disease can go chronicand come along with multiple co-infections and other complications such asbiofilm that can many times render antibiotics ineffective. The longer you have Lyme disease also plays a huge factor, because your immune system can become severely weakened, and antibiotics cannot strengthen your immune system .

What Are The Side Effects Of Lyme Disease Treatments

Antibiotics, like all medications, have the potential for side effects. Any antibiotic can cause skin rashes, and if an itchy red rash develops while on antibiotics, a patient should see their physician. Sometimes symptoms worsen for the first few days on an antibiotic. This is called a Herxheimer reaction and occurs when the antibiotics start to kill the bacteria. In the first 24 to 48 hours, dead bacterial products stimulate the immune system to release inflammatory cytokines and chemokines that can cause increased fever and achiness. This should be transient and last no more than a day or two after the initiation of antibiotics.

The most common side effect of the penicillin antibiotics is diarrhea, and occasionally even serious cases caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile. This bacterial overgrowth condition occurs because antibiotics kill the good bacteria in our gut. It can be helpful to use probiotics to restore the good bacteria and microbiome balance.

Understanding Chronic Lyme Disease Complex and It’s Treatment

When treating tick-borne disease there is more involved than simply trying to eradicate pathogens. Firstly, it is almost impossible to know all the pathogens which have invaded the body and it is equally difficult to determine which ones are responsible for what symptoms.

Our approach assumes that a healthy body can defend itself against disease and that the natural tendency of our body is to heal. Unfortunately, many factors can interfere or even prevent the natural patterns of our body from taking place.

Using the five steps to health we can help the body find the balance it needs to heal.
