Outlook For Early Disseminated Lyme Disease

A 21 Day Water Fast for HEALTH (Cure Lyme Disease, Infections, Bacteria, Mental Illness)

If you receive a diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics at this stage, you can expect to be cured of Lyme disease. Without treatment, complications can occur. Treatments are available for the complications.

In rare cases, you may experience a continuation of Lyme disease symptoms after antibiotic treatment. This is called post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome .

Some people who were treated for Lyme disease report muscle and joint pain, cognitive difficulties, sleep issues, or fatigue after their treatments were finished.

The cause of this is unknown. However, researchers believe it may be due to an autoimmune response in which your immune system attacks healthy tissues. It may also be linked to an ongoing infection with the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

The practices below can reduce your likelihood of contracting Lyme disease and having it progress to the early disseminated stage.

Borrelia: A Stealthy Bacteria

The bacteria Borrelia clears the blood quickly, and it uses its unique corkscrew shape to deeply penetrate the tissues of the joints, cartilage, brain, and nerves. Once it’s hidden inside these tissues, the antibiotics and immune system can’t reach it. It can even roll up into a dormant cyst and wait until the antibiotics are gone to reappear.

Slow Growing

Antibiotics are most effective on bacterium and microbes that grow rapidly and are densely concentrated in localized areas of the body. For instance, pneumonia is concentrated in the lungs, and this is part of the reason that it responds well to antibiotics. Borrelia, however, is very slow-growing and exists throughout the body in low concentrations.

Borrelia in the Microbiome

The microbiome is the congregate of all the microbes in the body, and Borrelia is great at blending in with them, becoming a part of the microbiome. Unlike other bacteria, it doesn’t want to overwhelm the human hos it just needs enough resources to survive. This makes it very difficult to both diagnose and treat.

Antibiotics Can Disrupt the Microbiome

Antibiotics Can Disrupt the Immune System

Up to 70% of our immune system functions are actually located in the gut, meaning that disruption of the microbiome can have huge effects on our immune system. When your body and immune system are already being run down by Lyme, causing even more harm to them with antibiotics is the wrong move.

Antibiotics Can Damage Mitochondria

Reduce Exposure To Mold And Parasites

Finally, according to research conducted in the Department of Microbiology-Immunology, environmental triggers like infectious pathogens, parasites, and mold can all play a significant role in the development of autoimmune diseases.

As such, reducing your exposure to dangerous substances such as these can ensure that you dont place additional stress on your immune system. You can learn more about how to identify mold and strategies to heal in this article.

How Does Fmd Work

FMD® provides the body with a scientifically developed combination of micro and macro-nutrients designed to keep the body nourished while going through the rejuvenating process of the fasting state.

The fasting mimicking diet program is a 5 day regimen of plant-based diet, scientifically designed to attain fasting-like effects while providing nourishment to minimize the burden of fasting, while not triggering key pro-aging pathways, such as the growth hormone and insulin and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 . Normal diets often activate these pathways, sending signals to that body that accelerates the growth hormone pathways, which also speed aging and block regeneration/rejuvenation.

The meals are low-sugar, low-protein, and low in calories and designed so that your body doesnt recognize the food and remains in a fasting mode.

The diet is comprised of low-protein, low-carbohydrate, and high good fat ingredients to help the body protect and repair itself naturally. These meals include energy bars, soups, a variety of snacks, drinks and supplements, usually consist of fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate and herbal teas.

The fasting mimicking diet lowers inflammation and inflammatory diseases, along with reducing risk factors for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

No serious adverse effects were reported with this form of diet either, according to prolonged fasting studies.

What Is Intermittent Fasting

Pin by Megan Smith on Lyme Disease

Intermittent fasting is an eating strategy in which you eat meals within a specific time period each day and fast the rest of the time. After a minimum of approximately 12 hours of fasting, the human body undergoes a metabolic switch a form of negative energy balance in which liver glycogen stores become depleted and fatty acids are mobilized from fat tissue and converted into energy. This metabolic switch is associated with alterations in biochemical and physiological pathways that lead to a downregulation of inflammation, improved blood sugar control, loss of fat mass , and improved cognition.

There are several ways to go about intermittent fasting. Listed here are just a few examples:

While intermittent fasting has only recently garnered attention in the mainstream media, fasting is anything but a passing trend! Humans have practiced intermittent fasting throughout evolutionary history due to fluctuations in food availability. Mounting scientific evidence indicates that our ancestral heritage has programmed our bodies to derive distinct biological benefits from fasting. Many of these health benefits may be particularly valuable to Lyme disease patients.

Diagnosis Testing And Treatment

You may have heard that the blood test for Lyme disease is correctly positive only 65% of the time or less. This is misleading information. As with serologic tests for other infectious diseases, the accuracy of the test depends upon how long youve been infected. During the first few weeks of infection, such as when a patient has an erythema migrans rash, the test is expected to be negative.

Several weeks after infection, FDA cleared tests have very good sensitivity.

It is possible for someone who was infected with Lyme disease to test negative because:

  • Some people who receive antibiotics early in disease may not have a fully developed antibody response or may only develop an antibody response at levels too low to be detected by the test.
  • Antibodies against Lyme disease bacteria usually take a few weeks to develop, so tests performed before this time may be negative even if the person is infected. In this case, if the person is retested a few weeks later, they should have a positive test if they have Lyme disease. It is not until 4 to 6 weeks have passed that the test is likely to be positive. This does not mean that the test is bad, only that it needs to be used correctly.
  • If you are pregnant and suspect you have contracted Lyme disease, contact your physician immediately.

    Intermittent Fasting Supports Gut Health

In preclinical research, intermittent fasting has been found to strengthen gut barrier function. A healthy gut barrier is crucial for optimizing immune function and preventing translocation of bacteria and bacterial byproducts from the gut to the systemic circulation, a process that incites systemic inflammation.

    What Causes Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria. Infected ticks spread the bacteria by biting people or animals.

Two types of ticks carry the Lyme disease bacteria in Canada. They are:

    • Deer ticks. They spread the disease in the eastern and south-central areas of Canada.
    • Western black-legged ticks. They spread the disease along the Pacific coast, mostly in southern British Columbia.

Remove ticks as soon as you notice them. Infected ticks usually don’t spread Lyme disease until they have been attached for at least 36 hours.

    Should You Use Antibiotics

Different antibiotics may be used to treat children and adults. The decision to take medicines for Lyme disease may be based on one or more of these factors:

    • You have symptoms of Lyme disease, especially the red, circular rash, and a history of exposure to ticks in geographic regions where Lyme disease is known to occur.
    • Blood tests show that you have antibodies to the Lyme disease bacteria in your blood, spinal fluid, or joint fluid.
    • You are pregnant or breastfeeding and are bitten by a tick.

    Hunting For Alternative Drug

Frustrated by the lack of treatment options for Lyme disease patients with lingering symptoms, Rajadas and his team began hunting for a better alternative in 2011. In 2016, they published a study in Drug Design, Development and Therapy that listed 20 chemical compounds, from about 4,000, that were most effective at killing the infection in mice. All 20 had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for various uses. One, for instance, is used to treat alcohol abuse disorder.

    Jayakumar Rajadas

In this most recent study, azlocillin, one of the top-20 contenders, was shown to eclipse a total of 7,450 compounds because it is more effective in killing B. burgdorferi and causes fewer side effects. Lyme disease affects more than 300,000 people annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It can affect various organs, including the brain, skin, heart, joints and nervous system, and cause heart problems and arthritis if untreated. Symptoms include fever, headaches, chills, and muscle and joint pain.

Traditional antibiotics, such as doxycycline, are effective as an early course of treatment for the infection in the majority of patients, but it remains unclear why these drugs fail to treat 10% to 20% of patients, Rajadas said.

    Key Points To Remember

    • Most Lyme disease tests are designed to detect antibodies made by the body in response to infection.
    • Antibodies can take several weeks to develop, so patients may test negative if infected only recently.
    • Antibodies normally persist in the blood for months or even years after the infection is gone therefore, the test cannot be used to determine cure.
    • Infection with other diseases, including some tickborne diseases, or some viral, bacterial, or autoimmune diseases, can result in false positive test results.
    • Some tests give results for two types of antibody, IgM and IgG. Positive IgM results should be disregarded if the patient has been ill for more than 30 days.

Yom Kippur: What Lyme Disease Taught Me About Fasting

    DISULFIRAM FOR LYME

    Categories: Jewish Life and Learning

Regular readers of my guest blogs on the Simon Family JCC site will know that I often write about the Jewish holidays as I experience them through my 3-year-old daughters eyes. Indeed, my thoughts about Rosh Hashanah last week followed that theme. For Yom Kippur, I am feeling slightly more self-reflective.

The most recognizable component of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, to the non-Jew is likely the fast. Traditionally, Jewish people fast for the 25 hours of the holiday. This fast is meant to be a complete fast, and the rabbis tell us it consists of abstaining from five things: food, water, washing or anointing the body, sexual intercourse, and wearing leather shoes.

In my memory bank of 38 Yom Kippur observances , I have this deeply rooted understanding that we fast from the sustenance of the body in order to focus all of our attention on the sustenance of the soul. In Seasons of Our Joy, Arthur Waskow writes, The mouths not used for food were used for chanting praise to God .

Ive been thinking a lot about that ideathat we are asked to somehow suppress our physical selves in preference to our spiritual selvesbecause of my experience right before Rosh Hashanah this year.

I actually was fasting from most of the five things from which the rabbis tell us to abstain .

    In Leviticus, , we read:

    What Is Fasting

Fasting is the reduction of some or all food or drink for a specific period of time to cleanse, detox and maximize the functions of the body.

Fasting is an effective anti-aging strategy and dietary detox, which allows your body to promote cellular protection, regeneration and rejuvenation. It has been associated with deceleration or prevention of most chronic degenerative and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Although prolonged fasting can cause rapid weight loss benefits, it is primarily used to instigate prolonged health benefits.

    What Is An At

An at-home Lyme disease test will typically be a blood finger prick test.

If you have been exposed to the bacteria Borrelia that leads to the infection of Lyme disease, your body will have created two antibodies to fight it off. The test will look for the presence of both types of antibodies, known as immunoglobulin M and immunoglobulin G .

You will receive your test kit along with account information so that you can get your test results as soon as theyre ready. Follow the manufacturers instructions exactly as they are described.

Each test has different instructions, so its very important to read the kits detailed information before getting started.

The Fasting Miracle: My Experience with 21 Days of Water Fasting for Lyme Disease [HD]

During your fast, make sure to drink plenty of water. I recommend drinking filtered water using a Berkey filter to minimize your intake of toxins found in tap water.

To break your fast, eat a meal containing low-glycemic index carbohydrates balanced with high-quality protein and healthy fats. You can find my specific Lyme disease diet recommendations in my blogs The Role of Nutrition in Lyme Disease Recovery Part 1: Reduce Inflammation and Part 2: Boost Your Immune System.

While intermittent fasting can benefit many Lyme patients, there is an important caveat: If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, underweight, or have a history of an eating disorder, I advise against intermittent fasting because it is a catabolic process that uses up energy reserves, can reduce your appetite, and may promote unnecessary weight loss.

Symptoms Of Early Disseminated Lyme Disease

The onset of early disseminated Lyme disease can begin days, weeks, or months after a person is bitten by an infected tick. The symptoms reflect the fact that the infection has begun to spread from the site of the tick bite to other parts of the body.

At this stage, the infection causes specific symptoms that may be intermittent. They are:

    • multiple erythema migrans lesions, which are circular or oval rashes that occur near the bite site and can be solid or resemble a bulls-eye
    • Bells palsy, which is paralysis or weakness of muscles on one or both sides of the face
    • meningitis, which is inflammation of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord
    • neck stiffness, severe headaches, or fever
    • severe muscle pain or numbness in the arms or legs
    • pain or swelling in the knees, shoulders, elbows, and other large joints

Why Is Intermittent Fasting So Beneficial To Lyme Warriors

Research has shown that when the body goes into a fasting period, it activates a process called autophagy. Autophagy is your body clearing out old, damaged components leading to improved cellular function and, specifically, a decrease in Borrelia-burgdorferi induced inflammation .

Adding intermittent fasting to your daily routine will be challenging theres no way around it, mainly if you are used to the typical eating style of the morning through the night, but the challenge is worth the improvement.

    Shower Whenever You Come Inside

While ticks can live through a shower, or even a washing machine cycle, showering directly after youve been involved in outdoor activities should mean that its easier to remove the ticks from your body when you find them. Make sure that you have an angled mirror available in your bathroom so that you can conduct a thorough check, and dont forget to check your scalp and under hair too.

    Tips For Reducing Inflammation

Changing diets to reduce inflammation can be daunting, but there are certain things people can do to make it easier.

    • No miracle food: People should include a wide variety of foods in their diet rather than relying on a few anti-inflammatory foods. What works for some people may not work for everyone, so people should ensure they get a wide range of nutrients by diversifying their diet.
    • Small changes: Rather than changing their entire diet all at once, people can make small changes to gradually replace pro-inflammatory foods with anti-inflammatory ones.
    • Rainbow meals: The darker or more intense the color of a fruit or vegetable, the more packed full of antioxidants it is. Choose a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables.
    • Exercise: Regular exercise can help reduce inflammation. People should start simply and aim for
